How this is calculated
- Binding length = quilt perimeter plus extra for corners and the diagonal join (default 12 inches).
- Strip count divides the total length by your usable fabric width, then rounds up.
- Yardage is based on your cut strip width multiplied by the number of strips.
- Double-fold (French) binding is assumed — the most durable finish for a quilt edge.
