How much binding do I need for a quilt?

Add up all four sides of your quilt (the perimeter), then add roughly 10 to 15 inches for corners and the join. Divide that by your fabric width to find how many strips to cut.

What width should I cut binding strips?

A 2.25 to 2.5 inch strip makes a standard double-fold binding. Wider strips give a fuller binding edge and need slightly more fabric.

How this is calculated
